Passing of Deacon Larry Casey/Obituary

It is with deepest sorrow and sadness that I announce that our beloved
Deacon Larry passed away this morning.
His family is finalizing all arrangements at this time and has requested the Council and Assembly coordinate with Father Mario Lopez regarding the saying of the Rosary during the wake/viewing in church. Additional information regarding this request will be in a separate email.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, Feb. 24th from 6pm to 9pm in the church. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, 2/25, at 11:00am. There will be a reception immediately following Mass. Interment will take place on Saturday, Feb. 26th at 10:00am in St. Clare's Memorial Garden.
Deacon Larry was a greatly loved man who loved our Parish in so many ways and served the Knights for many years. He will be greatly missed, especially his kind words and humor. Please keep his family in your continued prayers at this time.
Obituary
Deacon Lawrence “Larry” Brennan Casey age 89 of Wesley Mtn. Drive, Blairsville passed away peacefully on Monday February 21,2022 at his home following an extended illness. Deacon Casey was born on August 1,1932 in Rochester, NY., the son of the late Joseph Casey Jr., and the late Irma M. Fagan Casey. He was a US Air Force Veteran of Korean War. Larry was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1991 and served at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church since 1996. He received his Master's in Social Work and a Master's in Theology. He worked as a counselor after retiring from Eastman Kodak Company. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his family, loved God and served both whole heartedly.
Surviving Larry are his loving wife and best friend of sixty eight years, Rita Casey of Blairsville, his children and their spouses, Linda and Rich Krom of Waldo, OH., Debbie and Jim Foley of Alexander, NY., Dorothy and Church Covell of Daytona Beach Shores, FL., Colleen and Tom Orchanian of Blairsville, Patricia and Gary Brown of Spencerport, NY., Kathy and Tom Oaks of Brockport, NY., Sue and Tom Shoenthaler of Newnan, GA., Mary and Quintin Schwartz of Stanley, NY., Lisa and Bruce Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA., Theresa and Bill Winchester of Port Orange, FL., Michael Casey of Wetumka, AL., thirty three grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday February 25, 2022 at 11:00 am from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Mario Lopez officiating. Special music will be presented by Ron Gaucher and Marianne Engelmann. Interment will follow on Saturday at 10:00 am from St. Clare’s Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the North GA Honor Guard. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or to the Larry Casey Meditation Garden at the church in Larry’s memory. The family will meet with friends at St. Francis Church on Thursday evening from 6-9:00 pm.
