News for Knights

Image
---------- News for Knights of Columbus VOLUME 40 │ NUMBER 4 │JAN. 25, 2021   Knights of Columbus from across the United States joined other pro-life advocates Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C., to defend the rights of unborn children at a historic March for Life. Only a few days before, the Order placed its 1,500th ultrasound machine in a pregnancy resource center, a major milestone for the Ultrasound Initiative, which has helped countless women choose life since the program began in 2009.   Knights March for Life Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly, participating in the March for Life for the first time as leader of the Knights, expressed his support for the tens of thousands of people who took part in the annual demonstration. The march occurred as the Supreme Court weighs  Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization , the most significant challenge in many years to  Roe v. Wade , the landmark case that legalized abortion in all 50 states in 1973.  READ MORE • View photos from the March for Lif

Pray for Peace in the Ukraine

Image
Dear Brother Knights, Yesterday, Pope Francis called for a day of prayer for peace in Ukraine to be held this coming Wednesday, Jan. 26. Clearly, the cause is one that has worldwide implications, but in a particular way we wish to stand with our brother Knights in Ukraine, where the Order has had a presence for nearly a decade. To express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people, I urge brother Knights around the world to join with Pope Francis and the Universal Church in praying for peace in Ukraine on Wednesday. Specifically, I encourage you to join me at 3 p.m. Eastern U.S. time, if possible, in praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Prayer of St. Francis. Already I have heard from brother Knights in Poland, who have pledged to stand with their Ukrainian neighbors and brothers in prayerful solidarity at that hour. You can find a link here to the  Chaplet of Divine Mercy  and to the  Prayer of St. Francis . Thank you for answering our Holy Father’s call to prayer. Whether you

Please contact me to confirm you will be there, and how many will be with you to observe the ceremony. For fellow existing Knights and spouses wanting to observe this ceremony, please let me know if you will be attending.  Your council officers would like to see a big turn-out for thse new Knights. Thank you in advance, and I look forward to hearing from

Columbian Award

Worthy Brothers - At our member meeting last week, our Worthy DD Jack Planchard presented the Council with the Columbian award for 2020-2021.  The plaque has been placed on the wall where our most recent Council awards are located. Many thanks go out to every Knight in our Council, who helped make this award possible. Fraternally, Rick Graff

Thanks for all your help

Worthy Brothers - Many thanks to all that helped make this past Saturday's social a huge success, especially those who cooked the fine dinner and corn bread muffins, set-up, served, and cleaned up after the social was over. The weather was good, just like the weather forecasts said it would be.  Father Mario said the blessing, before departing for the Spanish Vigil Mass.   Fraternally, Rick Graff

Jerry Rousseau's Message

Worthy Brothers: Attached for your reference/reading is a copy of our Worthy Lecturer's presentation given at our member meeting last week. It was a very informative presentation and informed us we can access the Liturgy of the Hours, aka Divine Office via an app on our smart phones.  You can download an app onto your smart phone and access the Divine Office that way.  The app is free on an I-phone. More likely, you wake up at noon, groggy from too much champagne.  Happy New Year.   Whatever way you welcome 2022 — I’ve reached the age where I’m usually asleep when the ball falls in Times Square.  This is also the time of year where many of us make New Year’s Resolutions.   While a lot of us want to stick to that diet or dust off that treadmill — the one

January Exemplification

Dear current Worthy Brothers and future Worthy Brothers - Please be advised that the timing of our exemplification has been changed to take advantage of the change of the Spanish Mass to a Saturday Vigil Mass.  We will move everything up by two hours. Therefore, all new candidates planning to attend the in-person exemplification, please note that registration will take place at 12:30 PM and the ceremony will start promptly at 1:00 PM.  Everything else remains the same. This change will make it more convenient for parish members to stay and observe the ceremony once the 11:00 AM mass has ended.  Should any of you have any questions or desire additional information, my contact information is below. For those candidates (there is at least one), who cannot attend the exemplification, i will be contacting you to make other arrangements to observe the online or MP4 version of the ceremony in a separate email. Fraternally yours, Richard “Rick” F. Graff                   Grand Knight, Council

Announcement regarding a change in the scheduling of the Spanish Mass.

Dear Worthy Brothers - In the most recent Flock Notes issued by the Parish Office, there was an important announcement regarding a change in the scheduling of the Spanish Mass. Please be advised beginning 15 January 2022, the Sunday Spanish Mass will be changed from Sunday at 1:00 PM to a Saturday vigil Mass at 6:30 PM. Therefore, we do not anticipate any major issue with parking for our Saturday evening Socials, since most of you that plan to attend the socials attend the 4:30 mass because of the convenience it offers.  What this does mean is that for those members of the parish who religiously attend the Spanish mass, is that they will likely no attend any of our Saturday evening socials, since they will occur coincidentally, unless they are willing to attend the 4:30 English Language Vigil Mass. As a result of the Spanish Mass date and time change, we will change the time of our Exemplification scheduled for 23 January 2022.  The details will be covered in a separate email. Should y

Announcement about our upcoming Cajun Bayou Classic Dinner Social.

Dear Worthy Brothers - Some of you may have received the latest edition of Flock Notes and saw the announcement about our upcoming Cajun Bayou Classic Dinner Social. There was an error in the announcement.  The Knights are providing the jambalaya, corn bread, and salad, along with coffee, tea, and water.  We only ask attendees to bring a dessert to pass and their favorite beverages. I have contacted Nicole Beyers about this via a Flock Note reply and have also bcc'd her on this email to let her know about the error.  Hopefully she can issue a correction by this coming Monday.  I will prepare a pulpit announcement to be said before the Saturday Vigil 4:30PM and Sunday 8:30 and 11:00AM masses this weekend making the correction. tickets for Cajun dinner

Worthy Brothers - This weekend is the last time tickets will be for sale at the Vigil mass at 4:30 PM on Saturday and the 8:30 and 11:00AM masses on Sunday. We have lots of tickets still available for what promises to be a really great dinner.  I was on the tasting crew that sampled the jambalaya, and I can tell you it was great.  It was not spicy at all.  Most Cajun food is not spicy having spent 40+ years off and on traveling in Southern Louisiana on marine business for ZF and Twin Disc.  For those of you with shellfish concerns - don't worry.  This recipe only has sausage, chicken, and pork.  I will be in the vestibule of church before and after masses to sell tickets.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Tickets are $15.00/person and include the jambalaya, corn bread, and salad.  Ticket buyers are asked to bring a dessert to pass.  Bring your own favorite beverages, and if you like things spicy, then bring your own ht sauce.  We provide water, coffee, and tea. If you have an

Nativity take down

Worthy Brothers: Lew Gebhardt has asked for volunteers to help take the Nativity Creche and Banner down next Monday, 10 January at 9:00 AM. I will be there to help, but we need at least 8 to 10 people to make this a safe and easy take down effort. Call Lew to let him know you will be there.  His cell is 706-897-0208. Thank you! Winning Announcement

Dear Worthy Brothers: It is with great pleasure and on behalf of Ron and Darla Chmiel, I am able to announce our Council won the first place, and the blue ribbon for our Nativity display at Georgia Mountain Fair Grounds, for the Mountain Country Christmas in Lights 2021.  In addition, a check in the amount of $125.00 was written out to St. Francis of Assisi Church, as part of the first-place prize. Many thanks go out to Ron and Darla Chmiel, Ron Koerber and his wife, and new Knight Bob Maclean, who helped set up the booth, and to those who helped take the display down this week.  Congratulations!!!!
